Cross check OLTAS Challans automatically in FVU before making TDS return

NSDL introduces a new system to validate the challans in TDS return, against OLTAS information, before filing of TDS returns.

Earlier it was recommended for every deductor to cross verify the Challan Identification numbers (CIN) quoted in TDS return at NSDL website. This would make the deductors comply with accurate Challan data in their return. But due to practical difficulty and course of negligence, it was not happening to the expected rate.

Towards easing the complete process, NSDL introduces a new system for Challan verifications. In this new system, Deductor can download all the challan information of particular year at Challan Status Enquiry page. Deductor has to visit Challan Status Enquiry at and select “TAN Based View”. Once deductor confirms the TAN and financial year, it would display the challans along with a download option. This enables the deductor to download the Challan file, and further use it with New FVU.

The method of selecting the file for FVU will be described once the new Validation Utility releases.

This process is made with an intention to ensure proper mentioning of CIN in TDS statements. Currently many cases has been observed where in CIN would remain unmatched with OLTAS data received from Banks. This would certainly lead to intimations from NSDL and subsequent correction statement to be filed by TAN holder.

However, the sources confirm that, this process remains optional and Deductor can continue validating their TDS statements as earlier. This helps the deductors who would feel difficult to get internet access at their system.
